Case 12 · The category, in their words

Read the category in the words people already used.

This is not a trillion-post survey. It is the last month of public posts about you, a competitor, or a phrase buyers type — filed so a person can see the themes.

You hire him. He reads the public internet. You keep the judgement.

We need something that watches Reddit for buyer questions. Brandwatch is overkill and Google Alerts never sees the thread.

    Feature request

Most of this never enters a dashboard.

Insight platforms sell an archive. Most product and founder's questions are smaller: what did people complain about this competitor last week, and which feature names keep coming up.

  1. 01

Most research questions fit in a month of public posts, not a decade of archive.

  2. 02

Buyers already compared you. They typed it.

  3. 03

Themes are a filing job, not a custom classifier.

Three plays

Ways to turn mentions into work.

  • Track the phrase, not a panel

A monitor on “alternative”, a competitor name, or a job-to-be-done sentence is enough. Matching is literal, so include the spellings people actually type.

  • Let the filing show the theme

Category, intent and speaker turn a pile of posts into piles you can brief product from — switching, stuck, shopping — without a custom classifier.

Everyone in this thread is comparing the same three tools. The deciding complaint is always billing, not features.

  • Export the evidence

CSV of the window, or ask an agent for get_mention_analytics. The judgement stays yours.

The whole thread is “we would switch if billing was sane.” That is the brief.

Order and method

Track the keyword.Act on the signal.

  1. Drop the phrase buyers use.

A competitor name, “alternative”, a job-to-be-done sentence. Include the spellings.

  2. We find the public comparison.

Reddit, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads — the places a survey never reaches.

  3. Intent splits the pile.

Shopping, switching, stuck. Share of voice stays honest because you named the comparison set.

  4. Brief from the evidence.

CSV, analytics, or an agent on get_mention_analytics. The judgement is still a person.

MCP and the API are on every plan, including the trial. A webhook can fire when a mention is filed. Nothing replies in your name.

A letter of retainer

How Buaro keeps this brief

“I am not a panel. I am the last month of what they said when they thought nobody from the company was in the thread.”
— M. Buaro, Consulting listener
  • Keep competitor and brand piles apart.
  • Surface switching and shopping intent.
  • Hand you quotes, not a synthetic “insight”.

Questions about social market research.

01Is this a Brandwatch replacement for market research?

No. They query an archive. We file the conversation on five social networks (and named RSS or review URLs if you add them) from the day you start. Use them for historical CI; use this for what people said this month.

02What does HerculeRadar monitor?

Public mentions across X, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads for the keywords you put in a monitor: product, brand, competitors, founder name, feature names, or the phrases your customers actually use. Active monitors are swept every four hours.

03Do people need to tag my account?

No. Matching is on the keywords you track, so a conversation can mention the product without ever tagging you.

04What counts as a mention?

A public post, reply, thread or comment that matches a tracked keyword or alias. Duplicates are collapsed so you are not reviewing the same signal twice.

05How do alerts work?

Email, Telegram or a signed webhook when a mention matches a rule you set — category, urgency, source. Nothing is auto-replied.

06Can an AI agent watch this for me?

Yes. MCP and the API are on every plan, including the trial. A webhook can fire on mention.created; the agent reads the rest through MCP with the same permissions as the dashboard.
